You can’t make a trip to Canada without stopping by Lake Louise.

  • Around a 45-minute drive from Banff, Lake Louise is Canada’s second largest ski area, with 11 square miles of ground to traverse.
  • Known as the Lake of Little Fishes by the local First Nations people, this glacial lake stays frozen for most of the year, generally only completely thawing in the first week of June.
  • The Fairmont Chateau Lake Loise is one of the most iconic buildings in the country. The hotel offers endless winter activities, including snow shoeing, skiing and snowboarding.
  • Going out show shoeing with a qualified guide is an invigorating experience. Show shoeing is how the Rockies opened up and is a lot of fun.
  • Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Executive of Restaurant Chefs, Simon Samad, has been wowing guests taste buds for years. He offers guests a uniquely Canadian experience – maple taffy on snow.
  • The first step is to heat up some reduced Quebec maple syrup, and pour it into the snow. You let it cool for a bit, then take a popsicle stick and roll it up into a lollypop shape. It is sweet and smoky, with the ice freshening it up.
  • After your time in the snow, stop by the Fairmont for lunch – they use local Canadian ingredients to create a dish you’ll never forget. It’s the perfect way to end your day at Lake Louise.
