  • 1kg squid
  • 1 whole onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 punnet cherry tomatoes (cut into wedges)
  • Fresh parsley
  • Fresh Basil
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • 1kg box of penne


  • 1 x mixing bowl
  • Wooden spoon
  • Ladle
  • Large frying pan
  • Large pot
  • Measuring cups
  • Knife
  • Chopping board


  • Carve squid into strips
  • Cook the penne in salted boiling water until al dente
  • Fry squid in dry pan on high heat until you hear a ‘sizzling’
  • Remove squid from the pan and place to one side
  • Add onion and garlic to the pan and cook until onion is transluscent
  • Reduce to low heat and add tomatoes – cook for 10 minutes
  • Add squid back to pan with tomatoes
  • Pour cooked penne over the squid with a ladle of salted water
  • Mix together thoroughly
  • Sprinkle with fresh parsley & basil
