• Portcula is also known as purslane is identified as the richest vegetable source of alpha-linolenic acid, an essential omega-3 fatty acid.
• The lack of dietary sources of omega-3 fatty acids has resulted in a growing level of interest to introduce purslane as a new cultivated vegetable.
• Interestingly only plants can create Omega 3 fatty acids.
• Weed is only a weed when it’s a plant you don’t want, once you start harvesting portulaca you are going to find it becomes a bit more of a rarity in the garden.
